One of the most alarming, disturbing and truly heartbreaking attributes consuming believers is the absence of discernment among the body of Christ. It has exposed how far away so many believers have fallen from the Word. The Gospel of Jesus Christ reveals that it is impossible to deny yourself and take up your cross and follow Jesus, and yet CONSTANTLY be in the season of restoration, deliverance, healing, breakthrough, increase, abundance, favor, miracles, prosperity… That is not biblical! The bible says, “In the last days… men will be lovers of themselves…” (2 Timothy 3:1-2) and we are seeing the manifestation of that prophecy exposed, especially through the lack of discernment. We cannot latch on to EVERY word that proclaims a mountain top experience!
There are literally thousands of preachers, evangelist, teachers, ministers, prophets, pastors, televangelist, missionaries, people of God proclaiming IT. IS. YOUR. SEASON for (insert fleshly desire here). Sometimes, it’s your season for suffering, waiting, trials, brokenness, development, stillness, observation, death… I love what apostle Paul said in Galatians 3:1, ” O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?” If Jesus being our Shepherd was crucified, what makes us think we are above suffering and furthermore, reproach?!
Use wisdom, use discernment and stop latching on to everybody with a word that appeases your flesh. It may not apply to you. Yes, Jesus is going to perfect, establish, strengthen and settle you!!! BUT, the bible says, “After you suffer awhile…” That is a indication that there will be suffering. And, not only will there be suffering, but 1 Peter 5:10 unapologetically proclaimed AFTER AWHILE! AWHILE! Meaning you’re are going to have to rest in that thing for a moment!
This may be your season to suffer, this may be your season to separate. But because you’re not discerning it, you get completely blindsided when trial comes: crying hysterically, completely irate, utterly outraged or emotional taxed unable to function at that point.
One of the most horrific moments I continually witness in church, on prayer calls, in ministries, video blogs, on social media is when someone latches on to “It’s your season..” and the next day, their daughter dies, they find out they have cancer, they learned their husband want’s to file for divorce, they loose their job, their parent ends up in the hospital or for some reason, a tragedy occurs, and most (not all) but most are utterly destroyed in their spirit because we haven’t taught Christians how to be discerning disciples but encouraged them to be emotionally high church folk.
Now, I’m not saying, that it isn’t your season for prosperity, favor, increase, romance… whatever you hear. But, we have to test the spirit (1 John 4:1). Pray and ask, Jesus, “Is this for me?” If so, you will get confirmation in your spirit. It might not happen right away, but it will happen. Additionally, that seasonal word you received most likely will not to apply to your health, marriage, singleness, womb, job and ministry all at once!
Before latching on to a “it’s your season” message, take a moment and ask Jesus, “Are you talking to me?”
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Give us the spiritual wisdom to discern Your truth!
O Jesus, I pray that this post brings forth clarity and assists in building Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
