“Their”

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).

In mediation, the Spirit of the LORD brought to my remembrance Revelation 12:11, “And they overcame Satan by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony…”

Suddenly, the word “their” shock my spirit to it’s core!!! Then, the Master beginning speaking. He said, “Tell My people, stop trying to overcome Satan with someone else’s testimony!”

My heart dropped! I have used this scripture countless times and never, EVER observed the word “their.” I automatically believed that the word “their” meant “them.” Meaning, someone else’s testimony can help save me, and my testimony can help save them. However, Jesus said in this particular verse when the word “their” is presented, the context is: themselves. He confirmed this by reminding me of Acts 4:12 which reads, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

God reminded me that if any other flesh is connected to our saving grace experience, it is not true salvation. And, as a result will not bring true deliverance – salvation is through Jesus and Him alone!

This is why we can share our testimony at church and someone with the exact same issue can still leave defeated and in bondage. This is why we can write best-selling, earth shattering or demonic breaking anointed laced books, and the person who just read it is falling apart at the altar, hopeless! I will go deeper: this is why I can see someone conquering all of the many trials I’m struggling to overcome, and yet, their testimony doesn’t strengthen me…

Dear Spirit of the Living God, strengthen our minds, and clear our thoughts that we may look only towards You, the only One who has the ability to make our path’s straight! In Jesus name, we pray.

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Surrender, Worship and Obedience: Love!

“Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book” (Revelations 22:7).

“In Colossians 1:21-22, the Apostle Paul asserts that through the blood of Christ shed on the cross, we are to be presented holy, blameless and above reproach (i.e. above disapproval or disappointment) in the sight of God, the Father. However, in verse 23, Paul presents a clause: “if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel (of Jesus Christ).”

It is extremely foolish to believe that confession alone maintains our salvation. We too, must submit to Christ’s Lordship through faith.”

From my book, Blessed Is… A devotion of overlooked biblical truths.”

May the LORD strengthen you, perfect you and establish you. In Jesus name!

I’m nice because I’m a nice person…

Several years ago, I had the esteemed privilege to set under the teaching of Bishop Noel Jones for a length of time. He taught me many profound lessons. One of many quote’s that is ingrained in my mind is when he said, “I’m not nice to you because you’re paying me to be nice (or, because I want something from you); I’m nice to you because I’m a nice person, because I had an experience with God!!!” Those words perfectly explain the sentiment of my heart time and time again.

It is truly heartbreaking that pain ruins so deep, that many people have been so broken and bruised, so used and abused (refusing to truly believe God) that most oftentimes, few have the capacity to discern the selfless and honest virtue of love or kindness.

Frequently, the expression of doubt, curiosity, suspicion and even shock is exposed when I seek to reciprocate the love, grace or kindness to someone that Jesus has been so merciful to show to me. Some wives think you want their husband, some people think you want their approval, people think you want their position, people think you’re trying to uncover private information, people think you want their endorsement… At times, it can be slightly amusing but, more often then not, it is simply heartbreaking, exposing the deeply rooted trauma that one has yet to conquer.

May the LORD heal the secret brokenness and torment that dwells deeply in the heart, mind and soul of His children. In Jesus name I pray.

Reverence and Worship!

“Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. And Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the Lord spoke, saying: ‘By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; And before all the people I must be glorified.’  So Aaron held his peace” (Leviticus 10:1-3)

The third book of Moses called Leviticus primarily discusses priestly matters, as priest were drawn from the tribe of Levi. It would be a mistake, however, to simply consider Leviticus a collection of scripture solely regarding priesthood conduct as much of the text also explains the role of laity – in – worship. The central message of Leviticus is God’s holiness and His desire for His people to be holy (Leviticus 11:44; 19:2; 20:26).

In the text above we learn three principals for effectively serving in ministry:

First, we must honor the LORD in worship. In our text we read that Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron offered profane fire before the LORD. Meaning they treated something scared with irreverence or disrespect. What makes this story so unique is not only were both Nadab and Abihu killed by the LORD, but they were killed while serving the LORD. The Lord will not continue to use, what does not reverence His authority or respect His leadership.

Secondly, we must reverence the LORD publicly. Leviticus chapter 10 verse 3 said: By those who come near the LORD, He – must – be – regarded – as – holy; And before all the people. He – must – be – glorified.’” There is a problem when our worship is casual. Anytime we’re in the presence of God we must honor Him with praise, admiration and worship. Additionally, God commands that we glorify Him before all people.

Lastly, we must qualify our call. Notice that the bible said, Aaron, after watching his son’s death, held his peace. Anytime God has anointed you for a particular purpose, sooner or later you will find yourself in a circumstance that challenges that call rather it’s in your marriage, in ministry or with your overall integrity. As a priest, Aaron’s priority was to minister to the LORD and atone for the sins of the people, not support or overlook the sins of the people. Regardless of his circumstance, he was called to obey, respectively to God, even when faced with his own tragedy of losing his sons.

For some, God has anointed you for a particular purpose. And, like the sons of Aaron there has been a tremendous investment in preparing you. But, because of your carelessness in worship, because of your negligence in operating in ministry, God has separated some of you from such assignment. Romans 11:29 say’s “the gifts and callings of God are without repentance”, therefore, God will not change His purpose for those who show a lack of respect towards Him, God will not change our assignment because we refuse or are slow to honor Him, He will simply remove us from that which He has anointed and created us to do.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, Loving and Faithful One, give us the discipline O Lord to carry out your assignment for our lives with reverence and respect at all times. In Jesus name we pray.
