The Father’s Will, Surrender

I came across this worship song by William McDowell this evening and it literally had me weeping. The lyrics are filled with conviction, love and truth, pointing you directly to the heart of Jesus.

May this song minister to the core of your soul and elevate not only your worship, but your level of surrender and prayer.

William McDowell, “Song Of Intercession Intro”

“It’s so important that we surrender
‘Cause there are things on the heart of the Father
That we can’t even know until we posture ourselves
To surrender to what He wants.
We’ve been… deceived by the enemy
In the area of prayer
Because, specifically–I know this will go around the world,
But specifically in America,
The most financially prosperous nation on the earth–
The enemy has deceived many parts of the church
By convincing us to continue praying for our own needs
When we have everything we can possibly imagine.

If we were to heed the words of Jesus, he said:
Take no thought of what you will each,
What you will drink, or what you will wear,
For your Father knows that you have
Needed these things before you ask.
It goes on later to say,
Consider the lilies of the field:
They neither toil nor spin,
Yet Solomon, the richest man that ever lived,
In his glory, was never arrayed like one of these.
God… knows what we have need of.

I want to invite us to a new posture
Of understanding and prayer.
Don’t spend your faith on yourself.
That’s lower-level prayer.
How can we ever apprehend the heart of the Father
For the nations, if we keep worrying about
If He’ll pay our bills next month?

The nations are desperately in need
Of a church who will arise in power
And intercede on their behalf,
That the Lord of Glory would intervene
On the affairs of the earth.
I just wonder, if in this moment,
There are some people who say,
“Okay, I get it.”
Maybe some of you for the first time.

Posture yourself in the position in prayer
To apprehend God in a way that says:
“Lord, this prayer, this cry
Is not about me, is not about my needs,
Is not about my desires.
It’s about what You want,
It’s about interceding for the nations.

Is there anyone in this room tonight
Who have enough faith to know that
Everyone of your needs is taken care of.
It’s time for us to intercede
On behalf of the nations.
It’s time for us to intercede
On behalf of the nations!”

Wise Counsel

Suggested Scripture Reading: Esther 1:1-2:23

In Esther 2:15, we read that when Esther met with King Ahasuerus, she requested nothing from him but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised. And, the bible records that Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her. Interestingly to note, prior to being introduced to the king, Esther underwent twelve months of preparation (vs. 12) after which she was given only one evening to abide in the king’s presence. (vs. 14). Then, after an extensive time of separation, the king choose Esther, whom he loved more then all the other women to be his queen.

Many biblical principles could be pulled out of this short text. However, three that quickly stand out are obedience, faith and process. Not only did Esther submit to protocol, it is safe to conclude Esther had faith in the process. No where recorded in the text is Esther mentioned questioning or challenging Hegai during the 12 month preparation duration. And her reward, becoming Queen, namely senior leadership. A leadership role that was so significant it positioned her to save thousands in a short period of time. Ironically, her preparation time to simply met the king was longer then the beginning of her victories as Queen in saving her people from being destroyed, killed and annihilated!

Jeremiah 1:5 declares, Before God formed you in the womb, He knew you and set you apart… The purpose God has for you was formed before the foundation of the earth. God is not preparing your purpose, He is preparing you!

Often, it is thought and at times poorly advised that those who the LORD is preparing for leadership should be vocal about their concern’s, desires or objectives but as we are reminded from Queen Esther that  some of the most powerful roles FIRST submitted to a lengthy process of preparation; true in business, relationships and most certainly in ministry. In heading wise counsel such as Queen Esther did, we allow Jesus to prepare us for purpose. Once, you have been chosen then you can carry the mantle of speaking (or moving) with power and authority. I am reminded of James 4:10 which declares, Humble yourselves before (some versions say in the sight of )the Lord, and He will exalt you (HCSB).

Also interesting, the bible doesn’t immediately reveal that Esther loved King Ahasuerus, but exposes his deep and sincere admiration for her. Such divine order carried an abundance of favor for Queen Esther. Meaning: there is no one you have to chase or pursue! Humility is the key that opens doors!!!

Allow yourself to be positioned to do great and mighty works through submitting to the process (by faith) with a humble heart and pure conscious. In the appointed time, the LORD will position you in your purpose and use you to save others!

Prayer:  Dear Spirit of the Living God, strengthen our faith to submit to process!

O Jesus, I pray that this post brings forth clarity and assists in building Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
